Welcome!

I am a Ph.D. candidate in economics at the University of Oslo, advised by Ragnhild C. Schreiner and Edwin Leuven.

My research spans labor, education, and health economics, with a focus on sorting, matching, and centralized assignment. I am broadly interested in how public policy, market structure, and frictions shape equilibrium allocations, as well as how inefficiencies in and shocks to these allocations affect individual outcomes and aggregate welfare. To study these questions, I combine rich administrative data with a mix of reduced-form and structural methods.

Prior to starting my Ph.D., I earned a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Mannheim and worked as a predoctoral researcher at Paris Dauphine University – PSL and the London Business School. You can find my full CV here.

From June to July 2026, I visited CREST, hosted by Clément Malgouyres.

I am always happy to discuss research, be it yours or mine—feel free to get in touch at paul.setzepfand[at]econ.uio.no!
